08/24/2003 - Ride For Kids
Around 600 riders on 400 motorcycles of all makes and types lined up
at the Biltmore Mall for the start of Asheville's 2003 Ride For Kids,
a charity event to raise money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
Escorted by NC State Highway Patrol motor officers from Cary, NC,
more than 600 participants enjoyed a leisurely ride through scenic
countryside to the Celebration of Life event at the town of Lake Lure.
In the category of contributions from riding groups,
Asheville's GWRRA Chapter NC-I placed fifth with $1,365.
Congratulations to this year's first place group contributor,
Hendersonville GWRRA Chapter NC-M2,
whose members donated an astonishing $11,721.
The 2003 Asheville Ride for Kids goal was $70,000.
We exceeded that by a wide margin with a total of $89,555.
